* 3 3/4 pints (2 liters) vegetable oil * 2 pounds (950 grams) floury potatoes, like russets, peeled and cut into large chips
For the batter:
* 1 cup plain flour * 1 cup beer * 2 egg whites, whipped to soft peaks * Salt * 4 (9 ounce/250 gram) fillets haddock or cod, skin on, and pin boned
Directions
Pour all the vegetable oil into a deep pan or deep fat fryer, and heat to 300 degrees F (160 degrees C.) Blanch the cut potatoes in the oil until soft, but not colored, about 4 minutes. Remove and drain.
Mix together the flour and the beer, then fold in the egg whites. Turn up the heat of the oil to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Dip the fish in the batter and fry for a few minutes with the chips until golden brown.
Drain on kitchen paper and serve with bread and butter, wally's (battered, deep fried pickles served with ranch dressing), and pickled eggs.
@#@ If you think the batter is bit complicated you can use only flour and milk or half milk and half water.
Vegetable crisps: It’s a must try.Its way better than those things you get in the stores. Well am not all that health conscious but you know…. Well you can use any vegetable for this. You can use Beetroot, potatoe, sweet potatoe or carrot etc….
All you have to do is peel them and slice them using the japaneese slicer into really really thin slice. Put them in a bowl, Drizzle olive oil, salt and pepper or even paprika…then place them in the oven at 220 degrees…keep continuous watch on them and they are ready when they curl at the ends and also the pale vegetables will turn golden brown. Yummy yum….!!!!!

I know you are slightly taken aback about being my "soul sister",though we are two world's apart,we still love each other.I wanted to write notes to you ever since 2008,but you know things get in between.I know you like the age old tradition of penning down thoughts on paper, but you have to keep in mind the content of my letter.
I also know that i am 100 days late,I wanted to send this little mail on your birthday.SORRYY!!!
I'm not all that expressive both verbally as well as action,so please do put up with the least emotion split around.HMMMPPPHHH Where do i start?!???
Let me rewind your life.
SATURDAY (forgot the month) 2002-2003
As usual,on a normal Saturday,we(as in a few of our classmates) were playing "dog and the bone" in the basketball court, and a few of us were waiting for our weekly phone calls.I saw a family of five(dad, mum, nivedhika ,sathya aunty and you).
One of us assumed that a boy was walking into Clarke's Office.
At that very moment,we didn't care who was winning or losing the game. All 26 pairs of eyes out of its sockets, peeping into the office to know what that boy looked like. A few minutes later we were all introduced to a "TOMBOY" named Ishwariya Karthik. All chirpy and excited about the new school.
Now let me tell you the truth,be prepared because truth always hurts babe!;)First few weeks of 7th grade I tolerated the mess around me.Remember we sat in the last row ,just in case you forgot. My routine used to be to topple your desk every morning.I used to have so much fun toppling your desk.
Trying so hard to cheer you, when you shed those eeemmmooottttiiiiiooonnnaaaaaallllll tears.I guess you wer blessed with tear glands that could produce gallons of tears.Remember your "chaddi dodt" Jeya Susan!!! He! he! he!
Should have taped a few episodes especially the one when you blacked out When Mrs.Suresh was delivering her words of crapism.Remember the ladoo episode-I was saving up ladoos for you and ended up eating not just one but the entire lot!!Hey I was doing you a favour.I was helping you lose those extra pounds. You were in the 'B' Dorm, spending a few minutes with you, silly talks and massages and so on, and sometimes munching.Do you remember the "end of term program" we performed Yoga on stage.OMG sounds so silly. Those days were my most memorable days. No big wants .Our biggest need was just Foooooooodddddddddddd!!!!!!We were just a bunch of priviledged Oliver Twist. This reminds me,Mrs.Asma was a big fan of you poetry.I was Fuming Jealous!!Also, this was the year when we were so called St.Hilda's proud andonly football players.Waddya coach waddya coach.Man what a team, goalie,I miss the top playground.THe time we used to sit there, with shawls wrapped around our legs, dreaming about our Prince Charming, discussing what he'd look like and wher'd we be and so on.The dreaming would start only at the time of preparation(exam). So many other incidents ,I can go on.
The Year Where Our Slips Turned To Bras:
Grade 8:2003-2004
Rather than calling it just grade '8',I'd prefer calling it "The Year Of Evolution".It was a year with lots of ups and downs. We learned a lot.We knew what friendship is and what friends meant to us.Ours was one class, that never differentiated anyone. This year the frequency of you shedding tears took the lower part of the graph.I should have plotted a graph back then.Remember the time when we danced for the song Dil Chahtha Hai(woh ladki hai kahaan). We were a pair, had so much fun dancing. The silly fights to be at the center of the stage,so that we could get more attention.MMMAAADDDDDDD.......The play you acted in for the farewell party, don't remember the title, but i clearly remember your role-THE DUMB BUTLER.There is an actor in you.Inborn talent. The Football matches we played at "The Hebron School".I don't know if we were proud of being in the team or not but we would die to go play the match at Hebron.Oh Yaaaa!!The interschool sports was one time we saw a sea of boys,we were like dogs with tongues out, scanning each boy around. The only difference between us and theshy bitches is that "we play thee hard to get",where as they throw themselves at any guy with a dick...eeeewwwwww!!!!!!This so reminds me,the skinny long nosed, bag of bones...."Jonathan Reid".Mad female you wer.He was likea brittle twif dipped in flour.CCCRRRRREEEEPPPPPYYYYYYYYY.BTW I do understand "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder".
The Saturday walks, picnics on special occasions,Sunday Church was the highlight of the week. Some of us used to have hairwash with freezing cold water,on Saturday nights to look our best in church. We were forced to go to church,t'was one place to get away from school for a while.Sunday Biriyani wwoooowww!!!!!!!!!My mouth still waters.I feel like as though ,life is just being rewound and is playing right in front of me.I see your red Harry Potter sweater, with tight short denim skirt awwww so cccuutttteeeeee. The days when we treated The HEBROn School magazine like the HOLY GOSPEL,God however the world changes,we'll never get tired of the ehite skin, will we!!The christmas parties, the carol singing, class chapel services, house dance, play, singing competiotion.Sports in which Sommervelle took pride in bagging the 4th place. You people were so sportive!!!:).This was the year when we started acting like we know everything, playing the"I'm the coolest Gal" type, streaking hair, piercing the navel, the days when we started collecting the so called "the cool stuff. The occasional shopping we did, which was meant for buying gifts for our parents, but we splurged on mere junk food. How can i forget the African Dance(HOOOAH!!! HOOOAH!!Masa Masa Momba,Masa Masa ari lema). The braided hair, tribal clothes, spheres, drums ...that was real dancing.
Grade 9:2004-2005:
Year of Sorrow.Though it was a year of misery,we managed to find something or the other to do.Times when we were never possessive of each other at least when a few boys names cropped up.Doing little insignificant things for one another, which means a lot now.Letters to your pen pal Tim was so much fun.Exchanging pictures(Trading Pictures HE!HE!He!)recording the birthday songs for his birthday, trying to do the Indian rap(funny but very thoughtful). The notes we used to pass around in class.Being in an all girls school, was so much more fun.The birthday parties for which we'd take hours to get dresses, just to slip ourselves into a salwar kameez. Now I dreaad wearing salwar kameez.Though we never knew the art of make up(not that we know much now, atleast we are no amateurs),we thought we did and over decked up ourselves. The never ending phone conversations during holidays. From the time we wake up,I'd sit next to my phone, dial (0421)(2211905) and sit idle for hours together and talk about anything and everything under the sun. From what we eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner to our Nature's calls. To what we wore and what we watched on the idiot box.Again all the dance and other competitions.Learning to play the guitar and the drums were so much fun.Especially after 4.30pm,everyday Mr.Holden used to try so hard to teach us to play the guitar. The funniest part is that we used to play a few songs and he used to back up.People outside were under the impression that we were the ones playing the guitar and so amazingly well.Good old days.Discussing movies, food and in your case books.Yeah remember when you wrote a letter to your sister pretending to be an anonymous, asking her to be dressed like a gypsy to some big mall. How could you be so creative in doing something as silly as that?!?But coming to think of it now, everything seems so cute and naive.Do you still have your hand-made paper slam book.?Oh how i used to love stealing pictures from that. You were obsessed with that for a while.I guess by this year the frequency of shedding tears decreased. At least it dropped down to a minimum. I think you get the picture. The friendship's day is the highlight of the year. The season of making friendship bands.A competition of how many bands we've got on our hands. Some of us used to run out of space on either of our hands. The Teacher's Day celebration, where we'd have an excuse to ask the day scholars to bring food, instead ofserving the teachers. We'd gobble up everything .Do you remember the Shakesperean Play by some old student.English classes by Ms.Rodricks were the mosst awaited class.Even a tragedy like Julius Caesar was taught so well, and she made thee class so much more fun and interesting.Life from Grade 7 to Grade 9,no much change except in sizes and mental growth(minimal).A little more mature.
Grade 10:2005-2006
Last year at St.Hilda's together.Year when few of our classmates were elected as prefects.Year when friendship took the next phase.Year when our skirts got really short. Our tees became sphegettis, full pants to shorts and so on.Lot of changes in our bodies as well(my obsession).A few crazy idiot like me and my obsession for large breasts since i was flattened on top.Year of comparing figures, skin, hair and looks.Remember the time we had weight check-ups,we'd remove our shoes, pullovers, blazers just to weigh a little less,as though wearing them would make any difference.A week after weight check up some of us took up diets, thinking we'd stick to it.But as we know it lasted hardly for a week.We used to hog even after endless cribbing about the food.If anyone's parents got there to school on weekends. It becomes the weekend of feast. We've learned to share food in ST.Hilda's ,like all 26 hands into the container to grab food. The Hilda's Day Program. The tamil play. The dance where we had to do the traditional look.I was looking like a chakka. You danved in the group dance wearing a dhothi and kadhar sattai.Typical Gownder farmer.Year when Advaitha was born. You receiver the baby pictures from home. The tiny little fingers that resembled yours, and so many other features that looked a like your miniature. She looked so adorable and she still does. This was the year when you were sitting in the fourth row and las tbench with Aditya and read novels during classes ,even during Rody's classes. You must have had so much fun sitting there didn't you.Oh yeah I used to find it so funny every time
I called you HULK!Even today I see myself smiling when that word crosses my head. This was a year yo occasionally got rid of the bush on your forehead. This was the same year you were obsessed about your bumpy nose.Yay!watta scene you created
when I cut a few strands of your hair. You wer acting like I cut 6" of your when i hardly cut.
FOUR YEARS OF MY LIFE ST.HILDA'S SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MISERY WITHOUT
YOU
i had tears in ma eyes cuz it made me smile n brght ma confidence bk dat i hve a fw ppl who lve me no matter wat n dats wat matters at da end of a day!
Every 1st Birthday Party is special and the memories will be carried forever. My sister gave birth to twins. The most adorable pair of brats ever! We were so confused for the first birthday party. We did not know whether to have “Tom and Jerry” or “Kungfu Panda meets Barbie” cuz one was a girl and the other a boy. But we decided on “Micky and Minni” and it was a wonderful birthday party. It was cozy and the theme was a big hit. My sister organized it extremely well. She had lovely return gifts for the children. Themed cake n return gifts and the birthday clothes. She made these Minni hair bands for girls and Micky Ear bands for boys using poeder puff covered in black velvet stuck on a black hair band and for the girls stuck a bow in the middle. She put up big flex boards with Micky and Minni making the room look more colourful and it added to theme. The dress code was red for the guests. She even had a lucky draw for the best dressed guest. The kids lurved the chocolate fountain and even the adults had a good time slurping and dipping the cake in the fountain. We had many party games and it was a memorable birthday with a good spread of food on the buffet table. The internet was a big help and the dress, and gifts were designed by my sister. Well here are a few pictures of the party. If you are planning on a 1st party here are a few suggestions.there are some more picture in a another post....
